SUMMER TRIP 2022: JULY 3RD – JULY 16TH
Discovering the American Northeast: A Journey through Mountains, Lakes, and Coastal Towns
Day 1: On July 3rd, we embarked on our journey from the tri-state area, heading north to Burlington, Vermont. The coach bus ride was comfortable, filled with the excitement of the adventure ahead. As we traveled through picturesque landscapes, we anticipated the beauty and tranquility that awaited us in the Green Mountain state. By the time we arrived in Burlington, the scenic views of Lake Champlain welcomed us, promising a delightful stay.
Day 2: Our second day was dedicated to exploring the stunning Lake Champlain. The day was perfect for enjoying the great outdoors. We started with a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, taking in the serene views and the refreshing lake breeze. Some of us opted for a short hike, immersing ourselves in the lush greenery and the beautiful landscape. The highlight of the day was a relaxing boat tour on the lake, which provided breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and an opportunity to learn about the lake’s history and ecology.
Day 3: On the third day, we ventured to the charming town of Stowe, famous for its ski resort and scenic beauty. The resort offered stunning views and a chance to experience Vermont’s mountain charm. Afterward, we headed to Waterbury for a tour of the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory. The tour was both informative and delicious, as we learned about the ice cream-making process and enjoyed generous samples of their unique flavors.
Day 4: Our journey continued as we traveled through New Hampshire, making a few scenic stops along the way, before arriving in Bangor, Maine. The drive was beautiful, with rolling hills and dense forests providing a picturesque backdrop. Bangor welcomed us with its quaint charm and friendly atmosphere, setting the stage for our Maine adventure.
Day 5: We spent the fifth day exploring Bangor. The city, known for its historical architecture and vibrant cultural scene, offered a mix of sightseeing and relaxation. We visited the Bangor Waterfront, enjoyed a walk in the city’s historic district, and indulged in some local cuisine, including the famous “Lobstah” rolls. The day was a perfect blend of exploration and leisure, allowing us to appreciate the charm of Bangor.
Day 6: The sixth day took us on a coastal tour up to Lubec, the northernmost point on the East Coast of the United States. The journey along the coast was filled with stunning views of the ocean and picturesque seaside villages. We visited several famous lighthouses, each offering a unique glimpse into Maine’s maritime history. The highlight was the visit to Lubec, where the rugged beauty of the coastline left a lasting impression.
Day 7: Acadia National Park was the focus of our seventh day. The park’s breathtaking landscapes, from rocky shorelines to lush forests, provided endless opportunities for exploration. We hiked along some of the park’s scenic trails, taking in the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding islands. In the afternoon, we visited Bar Harbor, a picturesque town with a charming waterfront, inviting shops, and delightful seafood restaurants.
Day 8: On the eighth day, we traveled to Boston, Massachusetts, with a stop in Kennebunkport, Maine. Kennebunkport’s quaint seaside charm and elegant mansions made it a delightful stop. We enjoyed a leisurely walk through the town, visited local shops, and savored fresh seafood by the harbor. Arriving in Boston later in the day, we settled in, ready to explore the city’s rich history and vibrant culture.
Day 9: Boston’s historical and cultural landmarks awaited us on the ninth day. We started with a visit to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, where we took a guided tour of the iconic stadium. Next, we explored Cambridge, home to prestigious universities and a lively arts scene. The day ended with a delicious dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, where we enjoyed good food and live music in a vibrant setting.
Day 10: Our tenth day in Boston was dedicated to the city’s rich history. We walked the Freedom Trail, a path that takes you through 16 significant historical sites, including the Boston Common, Paul Revere’s House, and the Old North Church. The trail offered a fascinating glimpse into the American Revolution and Boston’s role in it. We also visited Faneuil Hall, a historic marketplace and meeting hall, now a bustling center of shops and eateries.
Day 11: The journey continued as we traveled to Warwick, Rhode Island, on the eleventh day. Warwick’s scenic coastal views and historic sites provided a relaxing and enjoyable day. We explored the town’s charming streets, visited local shops, and enjoyed a peaceful evening by the waterfront.
Day 12: Newport, Rhode Island, was our destination on the twelfth day. We visited The Breakers, the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s wealth during the Gilded Age. The mansion’s opulence and stunning ocean views were breathtaking. We also explored Newport’s Cliff Walk, a scenic trail offering beautiful views of the coastline and historic mansions.
Day 13: Our final full day took us to Mystic, Connecticut. The town’s seaside charm and rich maritime history made for a delightful visit. We spent time at the Mystic Seaport Museum, where we learned about the town’s shipbuilding heritage. The Mystic Aquarium was another highlight, with its fascinating marine life exhibits. We ended the day with a relaxing dinner at one of the town’s outdoor restaurants, enjoying the fresh sea breeze.
Day 14: On the fourteenth day, we traveled back to JFK Airport, arriving in the afternoon. Reflecting on the journey, we realized how much the American Northeast had to offer, from the mountains and lakes of Vermont to the coastal beauty of Maine and the historical richness of Boston. This trip had been the perfect summer getaway, offering diverse experiences and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and history of our own backyard.
